Eagle Incentive Program (EIP) at Georgia Southern University Summer 2010

Eagle Incentive Program – EIP is a program offered during the summer. It is an opportunity for students provisionally accepted for fall admission to demonstrate their ability to succeed at college-level work.  Students who pass all summer courses and earn a “C” or better GPA can enroll regularly for Fall 2010.

Students will be denied Fall 2010 admission if one or more of these statements are true:
1. They earn a cumulative GPA below 2.0
2. They fail one or more courses with an "F" grade
3. They do not complete the 8 credit hours (because of a "W" withdrawal or a grade of "F")

The Academic Courses and Professors – Students take three academic courses and earn eight hours of academic credit toward graduation (note: Courses are not remedial).  The professors will be hand-selected from among the best professors at Georgia Southern University.  These professors have a proven track-record of successful teaching and student-centeredness.

Dates of the Program – The program begins on June 17th with Operation Move In at the Recreation Activity Center (RAC). SOAR (orientation) will be on June 18th-19th and Conversations with Professors will be held on June 20th (more details to be given at SOAR). Classes will take place June 21st- July 23rd.

Reserve a Space in EIP – Return the student contract, along with the non-refundable $100 deposit, as soon as possible to reserve a space in the Eagle Incentive Program.  Reservations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. An invitation to SOAR, information about Housing, Financial Aid facts, and fee payment information will be mailed to you as confirmation of your reservation in the Eagle Incentive Program. You can contract in and make your payment online by clicking on the Electronic Contract or to print out and mail in your contract and payment click on the Paper Contract link.

SOAR (orientation) – Attendance at Southern’s Orientation, Advisement, and Registration (SOAR) on June 18th-19th is a requirement for all new students at Georgia Southern University.  You will receive information about signing up for SOAR after you reserve your space in the Eagle Incentive Program.  There is an additional fee for students and parents attending SOAR.

Financial Aid and HOPE Scholarship – If you want to be reviewed for summer financial aid, which includes the Georgia HOPE Scholarship, you must complete the appropriate paperwork in a timely manner.  You should complete the 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), found online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Please note:  For fall 2010 financial aid, you must also complete the 2010-2011 FAFSA.  If you ONLY want to be reviewed for HOPE, you should complete the GSFAPPS application available at www.gacollege411.org. More information about financial aid will be forwarded to you once you have reserved your space in the Eagle Incentive Program.

Housing – You are strongly encouraged to live on campus in Southern Courtyard while attending the Eagle Incentive Program.  Living on campus is convenient, plus you will be able to meet a lot of people and take advantage of many resources and services. Southern Courtyard offers apartment-style housing with single occupancy bedrooms with full-sized beds, dishwasher, stove, oven, full-sized refrigerator, and a washer and dryer in each unit.  The cost to live on campus during the EIP is $680 for the 4-person apartments and $715 for the 2-person apartments. There is a $10 residence hall activity fee.  Move-in will be on Thursday, June 17th (1-5 pm) and check-out is on July 24th. After you return your contract and $100 deposit for EIP, you will receive an email on how to apply for Housing for the summer (EIP) and for fall semester 2010.  Please apply for both EIP summer and fall 2010 at the same time. Fall 2010 housing is mandatory, and rooms are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.  A $100 non-refundable housing registration fee (good for both your EIP and fall 2010 housing applications) is required.  For more information, visit www.gsuhousing.com/EIP.

What if I retake the SAT/ACT? – If you retake the SAT or ACT and earn a higher score (minimum requirements for fall admission – 1000 SAT or 21 ACT), send the scores to Georgia Southern University and contact your Admissions Counselor to review your application for admission for fall semester.  If you are accepted for fall semester, your $100 deposit for EIP will be applied to your fall semester tuition.
