The cost of attending Georgia Southern University for the 2008/09 academic year is around $26,000. This includes expenses for tuition and fees, housing and food, and other personal expenses. These costs are lower than many other U.S. universities of comparable size and facilities.
To qualify for an I-20 form for an F-1 visa, international students must complete the SEVIS data form and provide official written documentation of financial resources available to cover at least one year’s educational and living expenses.
Financial Assistance
Georgia Southern offers a limited number of need based and academic scholarships for international students. International graduate students may also apply for graduate assistantships.

International Student Diversity Scholarships
Georgia Southern University recognizes the importance of international education and the benefits of a multicultural student population. To help ensure diversity, Georgia Southern University awards a limited number of out-of-country tuition waivers to undergraduate and graduate international students who demonstrate good academic standing, financial need, and commitment to the university and community. Students who receive an International Student Diversity Scholarship pay in-state tuition, an award equal to approximately $8,000 per academic year.
Academic Scholarships for Freshman
Georgia Southern recognizes academically talented high school students with a variety of academic scholarships or positions in the University Honors Program. To qualify, students should have demonstrated achievement inside the classroom, outstanding SAT/ACT scores (a 1200+ SAT score (Math + Critical Reading only) or a 27 ACT), leadership experience and extracurricular involvement. Georgia Southern awards 150 scholarships to outstanding incoming freshmen every year. International students are considered along with U.S. students for these competitive based scholarships.
Graduate Assistantships
International students admitted to the College of Graduate Studies at Georgia Southern University are eligible to apply for graduate assistantships. Graduate assistants are expected to work 20 hours per week in exchange for tuition remission and a stipend of at least $5,500 per academic year. Graduate assistantship positions are competitive.
