Admission Information | International Transfer

We are pleased that you are considering transferring your undergraduate (baccalaureate) studies to Georgia Southern University. Follow the steps below to research our academic programs, apply for transfer admission, and obtain an I-20 form for transfer.

Research Academic Programs and Costs

Georgia Southern offers over 120 undergraduate majors in seven academic colleges. Please visit http://www.georgiasouthern.edu/academics.php for information about our academic programs and departments.

Students must have sufficient financial resources to study at Georgia Southern. International students must document available funds to cover at least one year’s educational and living expenses, estimated to be around $28,000. International students are allowed to work on campus but should not anticipate on campus employment or expect employment to be a significant means of financial support. Federal and state financial aid is not available to international students. A limited number of scholarships are awarded to international transfer students.

Apply for Admission

Application and Fee. Apply online or download the international admissions application by visiting http://admissions.georgiasouthern.edu/ The application fee of $30 (US) can be paid by credit card (MasterCard or Visa), by an electronic check drawn on a U.S. bank, or with a bank draft, payable in U.S. dollars to Georgia Southern University. Applications will not be processed without the application fee.

Academic Transcripts. Request two copies of official academic transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Academic records must have a seal or an original signature and be sent directly from the college. If your records are not in English, you must include a certified English translation of all documents. Have your college send one copy of your official academic records to Georgia Southern and the additional copy to a professional evaluation agency as noted below.

If you have less than 30 transferable semester hours or 45 transferable quarter hours of college credits, you must also submit official transcripts, mark sheets, exam results, and certificates/diplomas for all secondary coursework. If your records are not in English, you must include a certified English translation of all documents.

Credential Evaluation. All international transcripts must be evaluated by a professional evaluation agency. We recommend you use the World Education Services (WES). Visit http://www.wes.org/ to view which documents are required for your country and to request a Course-by-Course Report (cost $150). Identify Georgia Southern University as a receiving institution at the time of application with WES: Georgia Southern University, Office of Admissions, PO Box 8024, Statesboro, GA 30460.

Course Descriptions. Submit course descriptions of all classes taken at international colleges or universities. You must submit detailed course descriptions along with other application materials by the Application Deadline. Acceptable course descriptions must be typed and can include course syllabi and/or course catalog descriptions (include web address, if available). Credits will not be awarded until course descriptions are received and evaluated by appropriate faculty at Georgia Southern University.

TOEFL Exam. Students whose first language is not English and who have not studied exclusively in English do not need to submit SAT/ACT scores but must submit official TOEFL scores to Georgia Southern. For admission, we require TOEFL scores of at least 69 internet-based, 193 computer-based or 523 paper-based. TOEFL scores must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to Georgia Southern University.

Apply for an I-20 form. In order to apply for a student visa or to initiate an F-1 transfer from another U.S. school , you will need an I-20 or DS-2019 form issued to you by the Center for International Studies at Georgia Southern University. To initiate this process, please complete the SEVIS Data Form and provide a bank statement showing you have sufficient funds to pay for at least one-year’s educational and living expenses. The Sevis Data Form and the original bank statement should be mailed to the Office of Admissions at the address provided on the Sevis Data Form.
