Sessions have a maximum number of students that can make a reservation, due to facility and staff limitations. Once the session has become full, the date will no longer appear as an option on the online reservation form.
Where to Stay

Students will stay on campus in Eagle Village for the first night of SOAR. Payment for one night of student housing is included in the student SOAR fee. Residence hall check-in is between 10 a.m. and noon on Day One of SOAR and will take place at Russell Union. You will need to bring: Twin sheets (extra long preferred or use full), a pillow, a blanket, towels, toiletries and an alarm clock.

What to Bring
  • Lots of energy! Our program is power-packed with information, fun, and spirit! Be ready to SOAR!
  • A list of questions that we may answer. We have outstanding Administration, Faculty, and Staff to assist you,
  • Your vehicle registration (tag receipt) and payment by check, Visa, or Mastercard to reserve your parking permit (if you'll be parking on campus for classes or at your residence hall),
  • Your GSU Report of Medical History (Immunization Report) if you have not submitted it to Health Services already (visit http://services.georgiasouthern.edu/health and click on "Immunizations" to get a copy),
  • Comfortable shoes and clothes (including gym clothes and/or swimsuit)
  • An umbrella, and a jacket (we have great air conditioning!),
  • Pen and Paper (Be prepared to learn a lot),
  • A copy of your transfer credit evaluation, if you have credit from another institution.

Parents

Parents are encouraged to attend; there will be several presentations and breakout sessions specific to parent needs. An additional charge of $30 for the first guest and $10 for each additional guest will apply.

The Orientation fee does not include on-campus housing. On-campus housing is available for parents for a seperate fee.

Schedule of Events
You must attend the entire two days in order to advise and register for classes. No late arrivals will be accepted.

Reservation

Student Fee: $70.00

Includes: Eagle Eye (New Student Guide), Student Conduct Code, Orientation Binder, SOAR t-shirt, Dinner on day one, Continental Breakfast and trained staff to assist with your transition.

Parent/Guest Fee: $30.00 first guest, $10.00 for each additional guest. Guests will attend a seperate program than the students. On-campus housing is not included in the SOAR fee.

Includes: Parent Eagle Eye, Orientation handouts, Dinner on day one, Continental Breakfast on day two, and Trained staff to answer questions.

SOAR Reservation Process:

  • Click on the reservation link below.
  • Enter your date of birth and Social Security number. Click the “Get Admissions Status Information” button.
  • In the Orientation Information box, click on the “SOAR Online Reservation Form” link.
  • Follow the instructions by selecting a SOAR session and completing your reservation with a VISA or Master Card payment.

If you do not have a credit card, please print and complete this form and return with a check or money order. Reservation Form

Refunds are available with written cancellation at least three business days prior to the scheduled session. All refunds are subject to a $10 processing fees.

Prepare for Advisement

You are encouraged to begin looking at the classes needed for your major and consider which classes you might be interested in taking your first semester at Georgia Southern. You can view advisement information and courses needed by visiting the Academic Advisement website. If you need to change your major, complete the information update form by clicking on the Change Major link.

Confirmation
Accessing your SOAR Confirmation Letter:
  • After reserving your SOAR session, return to the Admissions Status Check page.
  • Enter your date of birth and Social Security number. Click the “Get Admissions Status Information” button.
  • In the Orientation Information box, click on the “Confirmation Information” link. Print your two-page confirmation letter. To access the second page, click on the “Additional Information” link in the top right corner of the first page.

Southern Pathways (Optional Program)

As an incoming first-year student at Georgia Southern University, you have an amazing opportunity to participate in the Southern Pathways Leadership Programs. The goal of Southern Pathways is to provide you with experiences that illustrate the importance that service,  reflection, sense of community and self-awareness have on your development as a leader in a diverse and complex society. By the end of a week spent with new friends and shared experiences, we hope that you will have challenged yourself and learned the significance behind the phrase "leading with purpose!"

Sorority Recruitment (Optional Program)

Young women interested in participating in Sorority Recruitment for Fall must attend an above listed SOAR session to be enrolled in classes prior to August 1. Interested women can visit the Greek Life website.
