Seeing is believing, and there’s no better way to experience Georgia Southern than by attending an Open House. You’ll get the information you need about our academic programs, student life, and admission requirements. You can take a campus tour, check out our residence halls, and choose from several academic buildings to visit throughout campus. There are also opportunities to talk with professors about our 120+ degree programs.

Open House events begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 12:00 p.m., and feature a variety of sessions staggered throughout the morning so that students and their guests can attend the ones that interest them the most. Pre-registration is requested.

Discover Southern

Take advantage of the holiday weekend and “Discover Southern!”

Presidents’ Day | Monday, February 20, 2017

If you’re looking for more than just the traditional campus tour, come experience all that Georgia Southern has to offer by attending Discover Southern. You’ll have the opportunity to learn more about admission requirements, hear from a panel of current student leaders, attend academic breakout sessions, and talk to faculty and staff members at our academic and student services resource fair. You’ll also be able to visit three different residence halls, and can choose to eat at our Dining Commons for a reduced cost of $8.75/person.

Discover Southern events begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 12:30 p.m. Please note that we will not offer regular campus visits on Discover Southern days.

We strongly recommend that each student bring only one guest due to space limitations. Space is limited; pre-registration is required.

Transfer Visit Day

Friday, April 7, 2017

The Office of Admissions hosts two Transfer Visit Day events each academic year. These events provide students and their guests with transfer-specific information in areas such as Financial Aid, University Housing, and campus involvement. Students will have the opportunity to meet with academic colleges to learn more about their intended major and the advisement process, as well as take a campus tour led by one of our Southern Ambassadors.

Move On When Ready Information Sessions

The Move On When Ready (MOWR) Program allows high-ability, self-directed high school students to challenge themselves through college coursework. Students can take a single course or enroll full-time, and some students graduate high school having earned as much as two years’ worth of college credit. More than 200 students from over 25 high schools participate in the MOWR Program each semester at Georgia Southern University.

Honors Information Sessions

Fall 2016 sessions have passed. Our next sessions will take place during fall 2017.

Learn more about the University Honors Program at one of our honors information sessions. The University Honors Program seeks scholars interested in research, change agents interested in engaging local and global communities, and individuals seeking to explore their curiosity and express their creativity. The program provides an enhanced educational environment for bright and motivated students who seek a distinctive and challenging undergraduate experience. The program is designed as a “college within a college,” where students have access to smaller classes and enriching seminars and, at the same time, enjoy the opportunities provided by a large university.

Major-Specific Visits

The Office of Admissions partners with select academic colleges across campus each year to host College Visit Days. These events give prospective students the opportunity to learn more about the College’s majors and special programs, meet faculty members and current students, tour facilities, and take a campus tour.

When is the deadline to register for the event?
The deadline to register for each Open House is the Friday before each event at 12:00 p.m.

How do I register for the event?
Registration for the event can be completed in one of three ways:

You can cancel, reschedule, or modify your event registration in one of two ways:

  • Call the Office of Admissions at 912.478.5851
  • Email the Office of Admissions at visit@georgiasouthern.edu – please be sure to include your full name, the name and date of the event, and desired reschedule date and time (if you would like to attend a future Open House event)

Can I register a group of students for the event?
Yes. Please have the contact person for the group complete our Event Registration Form. The total number of students and chaperones attending should be listed on the form underneath “Total # of guests attending.” (*Please note that you do not need to submit an event registration form for each individual student). When you arrive to check in for the event, your students will be provided with information cards to complete so that we can have a record of their attendance at the event.

Are registrations capped for the event?
No. At this time, we do not cap registrations for Open House. All interested students, their family members, and friends are welcome to attend.

Is there a cost to attend the event?
No. Open House is a free event for all interested students, their family members, and friends.

What are the benefits of attending Open House?

How long is Open House?
Open House events begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 12:00 p.m. Early check-in and tours will be available at 7:30 a.m. the morning of the event.

Where does Open House take place?
The November 12 and April 1 Open House’s will begin at the Russell Union. The February 4 Open House will begin at the Recreation Activity Center (RAC). Please reference your confirmation and reminder emails for the event for more information.

Where should I park for the event?
Parking for the November 12 and April 1 Open House’s will be available in the Hanner Fieldhouse parking lots located at the corner of Fair Road and Herty Drive. Parking for the February 4 Open House will be available at the Recreation Activity Center, located at 2687 Akins Blvd., Statesboro, GA 30458.

How is Open House structured?
Open House begins with check-in and registration, and the option to take a walking tour of campus or check out our academic and student services browse. Around 9:00 a.m., a welcome session will occur for all guests in attendance. The remainder of the event features a variety of sessions staggered throughout the morning so that students and their guests can attend the ones that interest them the most. The event ends at 12:00 p.m., but features several optional afternoon activities for you to take part in. This includes checking out the University Store, the Center for Wildlife Education, and the Georgia Southern Museum. You may also wish to attend a sporting event on campus, should one be taking place the day of the event.

The event ends at 12:30 p.m., but features two optional afternoon activities: residence hall tours and lunch on your own at our Dining Commons.

When should I expect to receive a confirmation email for my visit?
You should receive a confirmation email for your visit within 1-2 business days after your reservation has been processed by the Office of Admissions. The confirmation email will be sent to the email address that you list on your Event Registration Form. Please ensure that you have entered this address correctly prior to submitting your form.

What should I do if I do not receive a confirmation email?
Please contact the Office of Admissions at 912.478.5851 to verify that (1) your registration has been received and processed, and (2) the confirmation email was sent to the correct email address. Confirmation emails will be re-sent to the email address listed on the Event Registration Form, or the updated email address, as needed.

Where should I stay if I am traveling from out of town?
There are a number of hotels located within a short drive of campus. For a complete listing of hotels in the area, or for more information about the City of Statesboro and the surrounding area, please visit the Statesboro Visitor Bureau, or call 912.489.1869.

What should I wear?
We strongly encourage you to wear comfortable walking shoes and to dress appropriately for the forecasted weather. There are both indoor and outdoor components to our events, so you may wish to bring a light jacket or sweater to wear indoors, should the air conditioning be on high. No matter the weather, the Office of Admissions will set up water bottle stations for guests at specified times throughout each event.
