Admission Decision Options

This website will help you explore why you were not admitted at this time along with several ways for you to enroll at one of our campuses. Additionally, our Admissions Counselors are available to meet with you in person or on the phone to discuss the specifics of your situation and assist you in reviewing all of your options.

Why Wasn’t I Admitted?

The application materials you submitted do not meet one or more of the minimum requirements set by the University System of Georgia and/or Georgia Southern University. These requirements include the following:

  • An acceptable score on the SAT or ACT:
    • A minimum total SAT score of 1030. Additionally, the University System of Georgia requires minimum scores of 24 on the reading test and 22 on the math test (redesigned exam).
    • A minimum composite ACT score of 20. Additionally, the University System of Georgia requires minimum scores of 17 in English and 17 in math.
  • Successful completion of the Required High School Curriculum (4 English, 4 math, 4 science, 3 social science, and 2 foreign language credits).
  • A minimum high school grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 in the Required High School Curriculum.

Please visit your Admissions Status Check Page to view the test scores and GPA we have on record for you.

What Are My Options?
  • If your test scores currently fall below the minimum required for admission, you can retake the SAT or ACT and we will reconsider your application once we have received the official new scores.
  • If your grade point average currently falls below the minimum required for admission, confirm that we have the most up-to-date high school transcript on file. You can send in updated grades from your senior year fall term or spring term for re-evaluation.
  • If you are deficient in any of the Required High School Curriculum areas and are currently enrolled in a class within that subject area, send in a course schedule to admissions@georgiasouthern.edu for re-evaluation.
  • If you reside near Hinesville, Georgia, you can speak with an admissions counselor to learn more about Georgia Southern University’s Liberty Campus and special enrollment opportunities available there.
  • You can attend another accredited college or university and complete 30 transferable semester hours (or 45 transferable quarter hours) with a satisfactory cumulative GPA to qualify for transfer admission. You can research other universities in Georgia online at usg.edu or tcsg.edu.
  • For students interested in attending classes in Statesboro, we highly encourage you to consider East Georgia State College’s Statesboro Campus. Students are eligible to use many of the Georgia Southern resources and some classes take place on our campus. We have developed seamless processes for transfer after completing 30 or more transferable credit hours. Additional options include Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro and Savannah State University and Savannah Technical College in Savannah.
  • All students have the right to appeal their admission decision. If you do not meet admission requirements but can provide evidence you can be successful at Georgia Southern, you can request your file be re-reviewed with additional information (i.e. recommendation letters or an explanation of special circumstances). Please contact your Admissions Counselor to discuss your situation before beginning the appeal process. Your formal appeal letter and supporting documents should be sent to appeals@georgiasouthern.edu.

Taking the first step toward continuing your education takes quite a bit of courage. We wish you the very best in attaining your educational goals. If you have any questions or would like more information, please call the Office of Admissions at (912) 478-5391.
