Tuition and Aid

Freshmen

Junior Year of High School

Have a conversation about what your family can afford to contribute annually, semesterly, monthly to a college education. Consider tuition and fees, books, room and board, spending money, transportation, etc.

Senior Year of High School

• September/October: Review the cost of attendance and breakdown of cost for Georgia Southern. Consider how this compares to other schools of interest and your family’s ability to contribute financially. • October 1: The FAFSA will be available. Visit the Financial Aid website for FAFSA tutorials and FAQs.
• February 1: Final Freshman deadline for academic scholarships at Georgia Southern. Learn more about Admissions Scholarships.
• March/April: If you completed the FAFSA and listed Georgia Southern, expect information from the Office of Financial Aid about your award. You may be asked to submit additional information for FAFSA verification purposes (about 30% of students will be asked to do this).
• August: Your Georgia Southern bill, which includes tuition, fees, residence hall, and dining plan, is due on the first day of classes.

• Georgia Southern has limited need-based aid for students. Contact your Admissions Counselor to discuss your situation and if you may qualify.

Transfer Students

Below are some important tips to help transfer students through the financial aid process.

• Financial aid does not transfer from one school to another. Once you have been admitted to Georgia Southern, contact your current school and have all remaining financial aid canceled.
• Update your current year FAFSA to include Georgia Southern University’s federal school code, 001572.
• Contact the Office of Financial Aid to see if additional information is required to complete your award.
• If you need a Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS), your parent applicant must complete a separate PLUS application.
• Georgia Southern University participates in the William D. Ford Direct Loan Program. Student loans are awarded if you indicated you were interested in receiving student loans.
• Loans received at your current school during the same academic year will be considered in reviewing your eligibility for additional loans in the same academic year. Students are prohibited from receiving more than their annual loan limit during an academic year, regardless of transfer.
• Check with your current lender(s) to find out if you need to complete an in-school deferment form. Enrollment certification can be printed from your MyGeorgiaSouthern account.
• If you are a Georgia Resident and you currently receive the HOPE scholarship at your current institution, all attempted hours in a degree program must be received, evaluated and posted before your HOPE status can be reviewed.
• February 1: Priority deadline for transfer academic scholarships at Georgia Southern.
• April 1: Final deadline for transfer academic scholarships at Georgia Southern.
• August: Your Georgia Southern bill, which includes tuition, fees, on-campus housing (if applicable), and dining plan (if applicable), is due on the first day of classes.

Scholarships

Scholarship Deadlines for Transfer Students:

• Fall Semester: April 1
• Spring Semester: December 1
