Enrollment Checklist

As you prepare to enroll at Georgia Southern, make sure to review your enrollment checklist below. This will ensure you are prepared to start your journey by the first day of classes! Select your student type below for more details.

Incoming Freshman Enrollment Checklist

Commit to Georgia Southern!

  • Register for SOAR
  • Activate your MyGS Portal and review personal information! Make sure your full name, preferred name, mailing address, and phone number are correct to receive the most up-to-date information.
  • Indicate your intention to live on campus by submitting your housing application online through your MyGS portal or apply for a housing exemption.

Submit Your Application for Federal and/or State Aid & Apply for Scholarships!

  • Submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to get access to federal financial aid.
  • If you are not submitting a FAFSA and want to apply for State Aid only, submit your application for HOPE/Zell Miller eligibility through GAFutures.org (GA Residents).
  • Check out other state aid programs.

Complete Important Steps in MyGeorgiaSouthern!

  • Access your GS Email – this is how we will communicate information to you about your requirements and other helpful information. Please check it daily!
  • Complete New Student Pre-Flight Modules under the “Services” section
  • Complete the Pre-Advisement Course through Folio in your MyGS Portal. Available in mid-October for Spring Admits and mid-March for Summer & Fall admits.

    **Once you have signed up for SOAR, you will be able to access a course, “Pre-Advisement Course”, within your MyGeorgiaSouthern portal under Folio. You will want to be sure to complete this course at least two weeks prior to your SOAR session to ensure you receive a course schedule at the SOAR event.
  • Review your student dashboard for credit evaluation if you have prior college credit or AP classes. The student dashboard is located inside your MyGS Portal.
  • Review any HOLDS you may have on your account through MyGS → WINGS so a class schedule can be created for you.
  • Make sure to review your authorization of Title IV (federal) funds request to select if your balance can be paid by your federal aid.

Submit Scores and Transcripts!

  • Take any classes for college credit via a test or class in high school? Get your scores sent in for schedule creation. Official scores must be sent to Georgia Southern University directly.
  • Submit your final transcripts from your previous colleges with final grades. These should be requested through your previous college’s records office.

Review your holds, requirements, and more!

  • Review our FERPA Policy to ensure your records are shared appropriately.
  • Submit your final high school transcript with your graduation date by contacting your high school and requesting an official transcript be sent to Georgia Southern University. 
  • Ensure that you have reviewed your course schedule! You will receive directions on how to do this during SOAR.
  • Review any holds that are on your account through MyGS → WINGS
  • Provide required information to Health Services. Submit your TB Screening, and check to make sure your immunization records have been received.

Are you In-State or Out-of-State?

  • Make sure you have verified your state residency (in-state or out-of-state). This includes verifying lawful presence! Check your status via MyGS Portal → WINGS→ Holds. 
  • Think you qualify for in-state tuition? Check to see if any of our tuition waivers apply to you.

Lock in your Payment Method!

Cards, Passes, and Textbooks, Oh My!

  • Get your Parking Pass 
  • Get your Eagle Card. Starting this year, your Eagle Card is moving to Eagle Card Mobile ID. After registering for SOAR you will receive an email from Eagle Card Services to upload your photo.  
  • Make sure you review all information about Day1 Access as this will charge your account automatically if you do not choose to opt out of the program.

Resources & Responsibilities! 

  • Remember to review your New Student Orientation Modules in your MyGS Portal under “services”.
  • Review the Student Code of Conduct and check out a session to get more information about your responsibilities as an Eagle.
  • Interested in Student Organizations? Check out what GS has to offer you.
  • Academic Resources are available to students starting the first day of the semester.

Incoming Transfer Students Enrollment Checklist

  • Activate your MyGS Portal!
  • Make sure your full name, preferred name, mailing address, and phone number are correct to receive the most up-to-date information! 

Submit Your Application for Federal and/or State Aid & Apply for Scholarships!

  • Submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to get access to federal financial aid
  • Transfer Students with HOPE should make sure all final transcripts are submitted to Georgia Southern.  You may request to be reviewed for the HOPE Scholarship by reaching out to the Office of Financial Aid. HOPE cannot be applied to any student’s account that has outstanding grades from previous semesters.
  • Check out other state aid programs.
