Why did you choose Georgia Southern?
When I first visited Georgia Southern, it was at an open house. At the end of the day, I felt that this school was going to be my home away from home. Every person I spoke to-students, directors of organizations, professors, and more-made me feel like I was cared about. The people are what brought me here (and what keeps me here).
What is your favorite place on campus and why?
Sweetheart Circle. I feel like I’m in a whole new world when I’m on Sweetheart. It gets me away from the hustle and bustle surrounding the academic buildings, and I love it especially when the weather is nice.
As a new student, what was your favorite part of SOAR?
I loved First Night Out! It was so much fun going to get to see the RAC with my new friends and participating in all the cool stuff they had for us. I remember using the climbing wall and doing a little Zumba class. It was a great end to a busy first day!
What is one piece of advice you would give to incoming students?
Try new things! College is a place where you have endless opportunities, so take advantage. You never know where you might end up.
What is your favorite memory or experience at Georgia Southern thus far?
I got to go on an Alternative Break to Montego Bay, Jamaica. The AB was dedicated towards spreading awareness about mental illnesses, as well as ending the stigma towards them. It was such an incredible experience. It opened up my eyes to the importance of mental health not only overseas, but at home as well. I also got to experience a new country, its culture, and amazing people. I loved every second of it and if I could go back, I absolutely would.
My first and middle name rhymes! Chanel Racquel. I can also burp on cue.
