Why did you choose Georgia Southern?
I chose this school because every time I set foot on campus, I immediately felt welcomed and a sense of belonging. The faculty here really cares about their students, and I love the “large scale, small feel” of Georgia Southern. It is so easy to find the community here, which was really important for me as I struggle with change.
What is your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite spot is definitely the William’s Center. There are so many student resources to access, and great work spaces when the library is super crowded. A close second favorite is Sweetheart Circle, which is the perfect hangout spot on a warm, sunny day.
As a new student, what was your favorite part of the SOAR program?
My favorite part of the SOAR program was definitely the small groups. I met so many amazing people in mine, that I love seeing on campus to this day. The discussions we had were also really eye-opening, and made me feel a lot more prepared for college.
What is the most important piece of advice you would give to incoming students?
GET INVOLVED!!!! Go to your dorm activities, attend Welcome Week events, join clubs, ask your classmate to go to the dining hall with you. The best way to form a community and adjust to being away from home is to branch out from your comfort zone and meet others that are in the same boat as you. You won’t regret it!
What is your favorite memory or experience at Georgia Southern thus far?
My favorite experience was attending the Holi Festival of Color. I went to photograph it for our school newspaper, but had so much fun along the way. Seeing everyone come together with beautiful colored powder being thrown in the air really reminded me why I love college, and how it is the best time to branch out and experience new things.
I studied abroad last summer in Lucca, Italy and it was such an incredible, eye-opening experience. I highly recommend studying abroad here through Georgia Southern.
