Why did you choose Georgia Southern?
Georgia Southern was actually not my first choice in schools. I was one of those people that wanted to get the credits and then transfer the second I could. That mentality changed after being here for two weeks. Through the people I met on my hall and the faculty and staff I met through Lead & Serve, I fell in love with this school. It’s hard not to! There are so many wonderful people and so many amazing opportunities to get involved and to grow, and that’s what I have done here. I don’t think I would be a Southern Ambassador, a Resident Advisor, or even a SOAR Leader if it wasn’t for Georgia Southern and for that I am forever grateful.
What is your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite place on campus is Sweetheart Circle (I know I’m basic). I love Sweetheart for so many reasons, but I’ll only say a few. Aside from it being a beautiful space on campus, we also hold so many events there where you can come out and just enjoy life! The trees are beautiful and seem like they were made to have an eno hung in them, which is my favorite thing to do. It’s so peaceful and just a great place to go relax after a long week!
As a new student, what was your favorite part of the SOAR program?
My favorite part of SOAR was actually the small group sessions because it was our time to ask questions and really get to know about what college is really like. I don’t have any older siblings so I didn’t know what to expect and being able to ask Devin (an amazing SOAR Leader) questions and just hear his passion for Georgia Southern helped me know that I was going to be okay.
What is the most important piece of advice you would give to incoming students?
The most important piece of advice I would give to an incoming student would be to get involved! There are so many opportunities to get involved and to make an impact on and off campus. Getting involved will help you make friends who have similar interests as you and will give you a support system that will be there for you when times get tough and will celebrate when life rocks!!
What is your favorite memory or experience at Georgia Southern thus far?
So far, my favorite experience at Georgia Southern has been giving tours to prospective students! It, as well as being an RA, has helped me figure out what I want to do after I graduate and I’m so grateful for that! I love getting to interact with potential students and their families, answering their questions and showing them around the greatest university, and I am so excited to get to interact with those students again this Summer as a SOAR Leader!
A fun fact about me is that I have accidentally started a mug collection!! I LOVE coffee (and tea, but mostly coffee), and when I started drinking it more often, I thought that it would get boring using the same mug over and over again so I started to buy more and then I got some as gifts and now I have about 40!!!
