Why did you choose Georgia Southern?
I initially avoided applying for Georgia Southern because I knew too many people who went here and decided to go to UGA for my freshman year. By spring semester of my freshman year, I had figured out I was transferring because UGA just wasn’t quite the right fit for me. I decided to transfer to Georgia Southern for the same reason I initially avoided it, because I knew a lot of people here. I became a SOAR leader and discovered the feeling of finding the right school for you. Now I’m happy and proud to have made my home here at this university.
What is your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite place on campus is this secret sitting area at the new Bio building. I spend a lot of time here because of my major so I get to enjoy the beautiful large glass windows and pretty greenery surrounding the tables. It’s perfectly shaded for those hot Georgia days.
As a new student, what was your favorite part of the SOAR program?
I came through a transfer SOAR session, and my favorite part about SOAR was everyone’s genuine care about each incoming student. Even as a transfer, I already felt welcomed on campus and ready to be an Eagle.
What is the most important piece of advice you would give to incoming students?
It’s totally okay to not be okay. Just learn to lean on others for help and become more aware of when you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed. We’re all going through this whole college thing together. Reach out to those close to you. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help.
What is your favorite memory or experience at Georgia Southern thus far?
My favorite experience at Georgia Southern so far has been my group of friends having a picnic and playing in Sweetheart Circle. We brought out our dogs, frisbees, and slacklines. We just enjoyed the sun, food, and love around us.
I love baking and decorating cakes. So hit me up for your next cake!
